Search Polk County Inmate Records

Polk County inmate records are maintained by the Polk County Sheriff's Office, led by Sheriff Grady Judd. The Sheriff runs three detention sites: a main jail in Bartow, a south facility near Frostproof, and a processing center in Winter Haven where all bookings happen. A free online jail roster lets anyone search for Polk County inmates by name, alias, or booking date. The roster shows current custody status, charges, and bond information. Polk County jail roster searches are available around the clock at no cost. For case outcomes, you still need the Clerk of Court records, which are a separate system.

Polk County Jail Roster Overview

The Polk County Sheriff's Office jail inquiry is the public-facing roster for current inmates and recent bookings. Sheriff Grady Judd's office updates the database continuously as booking staff process new arrestees at the Sheriff's Processing Center in Winter Haven. The roster covers people held at the Central County Jail in Bartow and the South County Jail near Frostproof. Results are capped at 1,000 matches per search, so a broader name search may need to be refined. The Sheriff's disclaimer makes clear that posted information is for informational purposes only, may contain errors, and changes quickly.

The jail roster does not show everyone in law-enforcement custody. People held in state prison under the Florida Department of Corrections do not appear here. Federal detainees in the custody of the U.S. Bureau of Prisons are also separate. Immigration detainees held by ICE are not part of the Polk Sheriff roster. For those categories, see the relevant state or federal locator tools described on the released inmates page. Case dispositions and court outcomes are maintained by the Polk County Clerk of the Circuit Court, not the jail system.

The Polk Sheriff's detention page links to the jail inquiry, inmate handbook, mail, phone, and commissary account information for the Polk County jail system.

The Sheriff's website also warns that an arrest does not mean a conviction and does not imply guilt or innocence. If you need the case outcome, search the Clerk's criminal and traffic portal. For active warrants, the warrant records page explains the Sheriff's separate warrant inquiry tool.

How to Use the Polk County Inmate Roster

The jail inquiry at polksheriff.org/detention/jail-inquiry opens with three search tabs: Name Search, Booking Date, and AKA Search. No account is required. You can search without giving your name or contact information. Most searches start on the Name tab. The Booking Date tab lets you pull all people booked in a given year, going back to 1999.

  1. Open the jail inquiry at polksheriff.org/detention/jail-inquiry and choose the Name Search tab.
  2. Enter at least a last name in the name field. For common names, add a first name to trim the list. If the name contains an apostrophe (such as O'Keefe), enter two apostrophes instead of one: O''Keefe.
  3. Check "Current inmates only" if you want only people in custody right now. Check "Show AKA names" to include aliases in your results.
  4. Click Search. If results exceed 1,000, the system will prompt you to refine. Use the Booking Date tab with a specific year to narrow by time period instead.
  5. Click a name in the results list to open the full inmate profile with booking details, charges, bond information, and facility assignment.

If a name search returns nothing, try the AKA Search tab. Some people book under a different name than their legal name. For phone-based access, the Sheriff's Automated Information System (AIS) is available at 863-457-3738 around the clock. A call-center representative can also help at 863-292-3400.

Polk County Jail Roster Search Fields

The jail inquiry page accepts several fields across its three tabs. Not all fields are required. The table below documents what the portal accepts and how each field behaves.

Field Label Type Required Notes
Name Search tab Tab selector Choose one tab route Searches current inmates and booking history by name.
Last Name / name text Text Primary field on Name tab Partial name search works. Names with apostrophes require two apostrophes: O''Keefe not O'Keefe.
Current inmates only Checkbox Optional Filters results to people still in custody; uncheck to see past bookings.
Show AKA names Checkbox Optional Includes known aliases in the search; useful when legal name is uncertain.
Booking Date tab Tab selector Alternative route Returns all bookings for a selected year.
Booking Year Dropdown Required on Booking Date tab Options run from 1999 through the current year (2026 listed).
AKA Search tab Tab selector Alternative route Searches alias records only; useful for people who book under a different name.
Search button Button n/a Runs the query; system caps results at 1,000 matches.

Note: Search results are limited to the first 1,000 matches. Narrow your search with a first name or a specific booking year if you get a too-many-results message.

What a Polk County Inmate Profile Shows

When you open a record from the roster, you see a profile built from data entered at booking. The information reflects what was recorded at intake at the Sheriff's Processing Center. Because some fields update as the case moves through the system, a profile you view today may look different from one viewed last week. The table below shows the fields a Polk County inmate profile typically displays.

Field What It Shows
Name Legal name used at booking; aliases listed if AKA search is active.
Booking Number / Inmate ID Unique identifier assigned at intake; use this number for inmate account deposits and mail.
Booking Date / Time Date and time the person was processed into custody at the Sheriff's Processing Center.
Current Custody Status Whether the person is still in custody or has been released; updates when book-out is completed.
Facility Current housing location, such as Central County Jail or South County Jail.
Charges Criminal charge descriptions and statute citations as recorded at arrest; does not reflect case outcome.
Arresting Agency The law enforcement agency that made the arrest, which may be PCSO, a city police department, or another agency.
Bond Amount / Type The bond amount set for release, if any; bond type may be cash, surety, or no bond.
Case or Warrant Number Associated court case or warrant reference; use this in the Clerk portal to pull the full case record.
Demographics Basic identifying information such as gender, race, and date of birth as recorded at booking.
Release Date Shown if the person has been released; blank for current inmates.

The profile notes that case dispositions come from the Clerk, not the jail system. Charges on the jail roster may differ from charges ultimately filed by the State Attorney. For a complete picture of any case, cross-reference the inmate profile with the Polk County criminal records portal.

Booking and Classification in Polk County

Every person arrested and brought into the Polk County Jail system passes through the Sheriff's Processing Center at 7101 De Castro Road in Winter Haven. Intake Records Specialists there create both a paper file and a digital record. Identifying information is collected, charges are documented, and the inmate is assigned an ID number. That ID number ties together the jail roster profile, inmate account, and facility assignment for the duration of the stay.

After intake, the Classification Unit evaluates each inmate to determine housing. Factors such as charge severity, prior record, health needs, and security risk shape the assignment. Inmates who cannot read, are blind, or do not speak English receive accommodations at intake: rules are read to them or explained through bilingual deputies. Once classified, inmates are housed at either Central County Jail or South County Jail.

A first appearance before a judge typically happens within 24 hours of arrest. At that hearing, a judge reviews probable cause and may set or adjust bond. Bond type matters. A surety bond is posted through a licensed bail agent. A cash bond requires the full amount paid directly to the jail or court. If the judge sets no bond, the person stays in custody until another hearing or a motion to modify bond is decided. Case status after first appearance is tracked in the Clerk's criminal and traffic system, not the jail roster.

Visitation Hours and Rules

Polk County inmates at both Central County Jail and South County Jail receive video visits through the Securus system. There is no in-person public visitation. All visits are scheduled as "Anywhere" video visits, meaning the visitor connects from any device through the Securus platform at securustech.net. Appointments must be created, changed, or canceled at least 24 hours in advance and before 6:00 p.m. the day before. Missing that deadline counts as one of the inmate's two allowed weekly visits.

Visit Type Available Windows Cost / Notes
Anywhere Visit (standard) 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.; 5:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. $10.00 for 20 minutes; each inmate allowed twice per week; no visits on Thanksgiving or Christmas.
Pre-adjudicated youth visits 3:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m. only Same video system; window restricted by age and custody status.
Attorney / professional video 7:30 a.m.-10:30 a.m.; 12:00 p.m.-4:00 p.m.; 7:00 p.m.-10:30 p.m. Appointment through Securus with at least 24 hours notice; attorney must register for POLK COUNTY ATTORNEY ONLY site designation and submit bar card, photo ID, and current photo.

Visitors must be 18 years or older to create a Securus account and schedule visits. Children may join a session if the adult account holder stays present throughout. The jail can deny, cancel, or restrict future visits for misconduct such as nudity, immoral conduct, or behavior affecting jail order. Repeated violations may lead to criminal charges. For visitation questions at Central County Jail, call 863-534-6153 or 863-534-6173. For South County Jail, call 863-635-2642 or 863-635-2643. Securus billing support is at 877-578-3658.

How to Contact a Polk County Inmate

Mail to inmates in Polk County does not arrive through regular postal delivery to the jail. The Sheriff's Office uses Smart Jail Mail. Sending a message through the Smart Jail Mail system costs 50 cents. Each photo costs $1.00. Indigent inmates may send two free messages each Saturday, but those messages expire at midnight that day. If you cannot use the online Smart Jail Mail account, you may send postal mail to: PCSO-CO SC, followed by the inmate's name and ID number, PO Box 1848, Pinellas Park, FL 33780. That mail is scanned and forwarded through Smart Jail Mail.

Legal mail from an attorney of record must be marked as legal mail and sent directly to the Central County Jail at 2390 Bob Phillips Road, Bartow, FL 33830. It is not processed through the P.O. Box route. Phone calls from inmates go through the Securus phone system at the facility. Families can set up a calling account through Securus. Books can be sent only in paperback or softcover format, directly from a third-party seller such as Amazon, with an invoice or packing slip. Maps in Bibles are accepted. No photographs, pictures, or hardcover books are allowed. Inmates may hold two softcover books and one Bible, totaling three books; any extra become Sheriff's property after the rejection notice period.

Commissary and Inmate Accounts

When someone is arrested, any money found on them at booking is deposited into their inmate account. The account then pays off any outstanding debt first, followed by commissary purchases, medical and dental fees, transportation, and sanctions. Three fees apply at the start: a $30 booking fee at intake, a $9 initial per-diem fee when transferred to housing, and a $2 daily per-diem fee thereafter. Medical, dental, and pharmacy fees are additional and vary by service.

To add money to an account, you need the state (Florida), the agency (Polk County Detention Facilities, FL), and either the inmate ID or the inmate's full name. Online deposits through Access Corrections are available 24 hours a day with a $300 daily limit. Deposit fees vary: amounts under $20 carry a service fee around $4.95 to $6.95; amounts from $20 to $99.99 carry a $9.95 fee; $100 to $199.99 carry an $11.95 fee; and $200 to $300 carry a $13.95 fee. Money orders must be mailed, not brought in person. Make the order payable to the inmate and mail to: Sheriff's Operations Center, Attention Inmate Accounts, with the inmate's name and ID on the envelope, 1891 Jim Keene Blvd., Winter Haven, FL 33880. Money orders over $100 are held for seven days before funds are available. Commissary orders are placed through housing kiosks and delivered weekly, with an $83 weekly limit combining in-house commissary and MyCarePack orders. For account questions, call 863-298-6528 Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

AIS Phone Access and VINE Notifications

The Polk County Sheriff's Office Automated Information System, known as AIS, provides 24-hour phone access to jail roster data at 863-457-3738. Callers can check whether a person is in custody, get a booking number, or hear charge information without using the internet. This is useful when online access is not available or when you need to verify a status quickly.

For release notifications, the Sheriff's jail inquiry page links to the Florida VINE system at vinelink.com. VINE is free and lets anyone register to receive alerts when a specific inmate is released or when the custody status changes. You register by selecting Florida, searching for the person, and providing a phone number or email for alerts along with a personal PIN. VINE is run as a victim and community notification service. Notifications are not legal documents. For more detail on release status, see the released inmates page and the inmate population data page.
